Arboreal Pixelation is a unique game that combines traditional design elements with digital technology to create an engaging and sustainable gaming experience.
The game revolves around gamifying nature by creating paint-by-number 2D templates. To begin, players are provided with a map of the UK and can choose a tree to visit. Once they arrive at the specific tree site, players must observe the tree and surrounding environment to paint a 2D texture template. After completing the painting, they scan it into the game using a digital device. The scanned 2D template is then superimposed onto the 3D scanned tree in the game, creating a visually organic map. The colours of the player's painted and scanned 2D textures are influenced by the sensory data collected from the tree. As the sensory data from the tree changes, the app dynamically adjusts the colours in its creations to match the living palette of the tree's surroundings.
Arboreal Pixelation aims to promote a deep sense of connection between players and nature. By immersing themselves in the natural world and capturing its essence through artistic expression, players experience a harmonious interaction between their creations and the environment. The game encourages players to slow down and embrace ‘tree time’, encouraging mindfulness and a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of humans, nature, and technology. By engaging with the game outdoors, players embark on a journey of exploration, discovery, and respect for the natural world.
